Every June before the start of their Summer break a group of Dulwich College Shanghai students jet off to Europe for the annual ViennaBoys Choir Tour. On the tour students participate in workshops at the Vienna Boys Choir under the direction of Mr. Gerald Wirth, the Musical Director of the Vienna Boys Choir. The tour highlights are performances with the Vienna Boys Choir at Palais Augarten, Schönbrunn Chapel, St Stephan’s Cathedral, St. Sebastian’s (Salzburg) and a live radio performance, Stimmbogen Concert at Konzerthaus.    Whilst on this year's tour, Gerald Wirth spotted the amazing young talent of Year 5 Dulwich College Shanghai student Thomas Speciel. Mr. Wirth invited Thomas back to Vienna during the school summer holidays for a two week trial to see whether Thomas has the full potential to make it in the world famous Vienna Boys Choir.  Thomas and his family visited Dulwich College Shanghai earlier this week to share the fantastic news that he has been successful in gaining one of the very select places offered each year in the Vienna Boys Choir.

Thomas returned to the College in late September to perform with another former Dulwich student Lily Duncan, who was selected last year to join the first ever Senior Girls Vienna Choir.  Thomas and Lily sang for both Senior and Junior School students. Thomas leaves Shanghai in October to spend four years in Vienna.   All the staff and students at Dulwich College Shanghai are extremely proud of Thomas and his achievement. An amazing success story that was a mere dream twelve months ago.
