Dulwich College International Alumni Reception One of Many “Firsts”

More than 60 alumni and staff from Dulwich College and Dulwich College International schools gathered at Dulwich’s campus in London for the first-ever international alumni reception. Attendees included alumni representing our London, Beijing, and Shanghai campuses. The reception was significant in more than one way. Since Dulwich College international schools opened in 2003, it was the first time alumni from all three Dulwich College schools (those that have graduated students) came together for a reception. “It really was a brilliant idea to link up the international Colleges with the London College,” said Ibrahim Sheriff DCL ’10. Secondly, Dulwich College being an all-boys school it was the first time in the school’s 400-year history that females attended such events as Dulwich College alumni. In fact, former Head Girl at Dulwich College Beijing (DCB) Lisa Kleber ’10 offered opening remarks on behalf of our international school alumni. To top it off, the event featured a performance of musicians from DCB conducted by DCB’s Head of Music Shane O’Shea. Coincidentally the event reception occurred during a student Music Gifted and Talented trip to Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and a tour of the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London hosted by clarinettist, RAM student, and DCB alumnus Joseph Lim ’10. To Shane O’Shea, Dulwich College Master Dr. Joseph Spence wrote: “Thank you and the DC Beijing musicians for adding a special dimension to the inaugural Overseas’ Alumni event here on Saturday evening. I much enjoyed meeting everybody and listening to that great range of musical offerings you afforded us.” This was an excited start to a future full of value-added events, programmes, and service offerings for our Dulwich College international school alumni.
