Dulwich International High School Programme in Suzhou opens

September 17, 2012 - it was a day that celebrated a new addition to the Dulwich College International family. Dulwich College International High School Programme, a joint collaboration between Dulwich College and Suzhou High School, two long-established education institutions, was officially launched. Dignitaries both local and international, students, teachers and parents were all present to participate and celebrate a key milestone in their educational journeys. We were proud to have Mr. Matthew Forbes, HM Deputy Consul in Shanghai and Madam Sheng Lei, Deputy Mayor of Suzhou Municipal Government as the main guests the ceremony. In his address Mr. Forbes stated: “UK education combines traditional values with modern technology and UK awards are highly-recognized, as are UK graduates who are highly sought after by major international companies worldwide. Starting your UK education in a high school like Dulwich is the perfect opportunity to learn about UK life and culture; you can study for world-famous qualifications that will set you on the path to future success.” While Madam Sheng Lei, Deputy Mayor, Suzhou Municipal Government, said: “Programmes such as this are evidence of increasingly stronger ties between China and Great Britain in a great variety of areas. They also mark the increasing internationalisation of Suzhou as its economy grows from strength to strength. It is particularly pleasing to see such venerable institutions as Suzhou High School and Dulwich College with their eight hundred year and four hundred year traditions of academic excellence respectively, join in such a close collaboration.” Among the VIPs, who also participated in the ceremony were Mr. Heinrich Schellenberg, Consul General of Switzerland to Shanghai, representatives of the Suzhou Government and Education Authority, Dr. William Foster, a member of the Board of Governors from Dulwich College London, Mr. Ralph Mainard, Deputy Master External from Dulwich College London, executives from Dulwich College Management International (DCMI) and the headmasters and directors from all of the Dulwich College International family of schools. The audience were also treated to stunning performances from students of the A-level programme. Pu Yiliu started off with an excellent recital of Fan Zhongyan’s famous piece on Yueyang Tower. Followed by our three young and talented violinists, Gao Ming Xian, Li Jia Xi and Chen Si played and were accompanied on the piano by Seth Lu Zhuo. Parents that attended were extremely impressed by the warmth and prospective of their welcome to the Dulwich family.
