2019 marks the third year of our Student Leadership Conference, in which students from across the Dulwich College International family of schools and the founding school in London, Dulwich College, came together in Shanghai to participate in a three-day conference to develop skills as young, growing leaders.
Participants were engaged in workshops that focus on areas such as presentation skills, internal team communications and leadership models which are important for any future career. This year, under the theme Teaspoons of Change, over 30 Head and Deputy Head students gathered together alongside keynote speaker, d’Arcy Lunn, to discuss how their everyday small actions can have a positive impact in the world.
For the past 18 years d’Arcy has travelled to more than 90 countries, given over 900 presentations to 85,000+ people and worked with leading development, environmental, social justice and global education organisations and people. His self-initiated concept and organisation, Teaspoons of Change, focuses on the personal choices, decisions and actions that have a positive impact on people and the planet.
d’Arcy’s Teaspoon of Change was chosen as this year’s theme because it clearly aligns with our vision: to create the best schools in the world so our students make a positive difference.
Other speakers who also shared their knowledge and expertise to the students were Pete Rogers, corporate trainer, motivational speaker, leadership coach and body language; Olivia Bugden, Assistant Head of Enrichment and Wellbeing at Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong; and Lavinia Tong, an experienced marketing leader with a proven track record in brand and digital marketing, commercialisation and innovation. Lavinia is the Regional Director of Marketing and Communications at Dulwich College International.
Participants of the Student Leadership Conference shared that they valued and cherished all the new skills they had learned. They could not wait to go back to their schools and run their own student-led conference to share their new skills and enrich their respective communities in order to address the question: “How do we, as student leaders add value to our community?”
