Textile Technology

Textile Technology

Project Manager: Kathryn Hall

This project focusses on using wearable technology, with students designing and making a fashion collection that incorporates “soft circuits” and e-textiles”. The technology will include lighting, sound, sensors or tracking devices. These would be embedded into the clothing that students would design and make. Students would also work with different surface decoration techniques, such as printing, embroidery and using “smart” materials such as thermo chromatic and photo chromatic dyes. This has links to Art, via sketching and design, Maths with the measuring of pattern pieces to make the clothing, and Computer Science using programmable components. In addition, there will be an “enrichment day” where industry professionals in the technology and creative industries would talk to students and provide practical workshops. The project would culminate with a fashion show and exhibition of students’ work (sketch books, photographs etc), inviting other schools and stakeholders to the event.
