Class of 2022 receive outstanding offers from UK, US, EU, Asia

By Lucien Giordano,

Group Director of International Outreach and Alumni Engagement

In the typical university application cycle, 30 to 40 percent of our students will receive offers from universities by the end of January. This represents students who applied to American and/or British universities with "early application" deadlines before December. The remaining offers come in the Spring and Summer, from universities worldwide, that use deadlines starting in January. For the Class of 2022, we are excited to share a summary of our "early" round offers to date.

Six of our students received offers from Oxford (1) and Cambridge (5), schools which share an annual 15 October deadline. The offers span subjects as diverse as Natural Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, Modern and Medieval Languages, Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, and Computer Science.

In the US, offers have come in from institutions that offer Early Decision and Early Action deadlines before December, including Ivy League institutions Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, as well as Duke University, Northwestern University, Emory University, and the University of Chicago. In each case, these universities make offers to approximately 10 percent or less of applicants.

Darren Z

Dulwich High School Suzhou

Darren Z, a student at Dulwich High School Suzhou, is delighted to have received an unconditional acceptance offer from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), a selective university in the US. CWRU is a private research institute in Ohio, most famous for the co-discovery of insulin, and accepts less than 30 percent of the nearly 30,000 applicants who apply per year. Darren intends to major in History - and he has words of advice for students wishing to follow in his footsteps.

"I suggest that students decide [where] to apply for university as early as possible," Darren says. "In this way, they can have more time to plan their co-curricular activities. It is also necessary to work hard early to achieve excellent grades."

Sophie P

Dulwich College (Singapore)

Sophie P is another great role model for our future applicants. Although she intends to study Sociology, Sophie's counselor notes that one her greatest strengths is her passion for the dramatic arts. Sophie sung in numerous performances  during her time at Dulwich College (Singapore), which became a focus of her application. Later this year, Sophie will attend New York University (NYU), which made offers to only 21 percent of its 80,000 applicants last year.

Many of our Art and Design students continue to stand out and have received offers to institutions such: the Rhode Island School of Design, University of the Arts London, Lasalle College of the Arts, Otis College of Art and Design, School of Visual Arts, and The New School.

Other notable offers include 17 from The University of Warwick, rated as a Top 100 university by the QS World Report. Sheffield University chips in with 22 places for our students and the University of Manchester, a QS Top 30 institution, delivers a whopping 42. There are also numerous offers from Leeds University, University of Bristol, Goldsmith's College, University of London and Imperial College London.

The most important decision for many of our students in this process is that of what to study. This requires great self-understanding and research. One Dulwich College Beijing student knew he wanted to study multiple subjects in the UK, so he looked for universities with interdisciplinary or dual degrees, which can be difficult to find in the British university system. He applied to five universities in November and received a conditional offer to his first-choice university – the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) where he can pursue his interests in everything from sustainability to history and politics.

In Asia Pacific region, early offers have come in from the University of Hong Kong plus one apiece from the University of Queensland and the University of Sydney.

No matter where our students go to study, they pursue diverse academic interests. Psychology features highly as a chosen major for our Class of 2022, as do Mathematics, Engineering, Marketing & Communications and Art and Design.

With the early application and offer cycles now wrapped up, we look forward to updates later this Spring when the majority of offers from universities worldwide are made.
